Save The Pavilion Group Set to Publish 'Memoirs of the Pavilion'

One of the ideas at the first meeting of the fundraising group was to collect people’s memories, anecdotes, stories, photos, posters etc. of the Pavilion over the years.

Penny MacGregor from the group said: "I am sure the building has been very special to many people during its lifetime.  How many people fell in love there?  Proposed to or agreed to marry their sweetheart?  What was the Beatles concert like?  Did anyone work in the glove factory?  Has anyone really seen one of the ghosts?

"We would like to put these tales together with old photos into a booklet and sell them throughout the tourist season, so iIf anyone has any memories could you please
Click here to drop us a line or if you know of anyone else who may be able to contribute could you please encourage them to get in touch.  I’ll happily arrange to visit people and take stories down as they tell me."

A spokesman for Derbyshire Dales District Council said: “We are happy to submit The Matlock Bath Pavilion Group’s request for an extended consultation period as an option to be considered by members of the Partnership and Regeneration Committee at its meeting on February 18.

“The current consultation process was agreed two months ago (November 5) by this Committee, because District Councillors wanted to hear the views of local people before making any decisions on the long-term future of Matlock Bath Pavilion.

“The District Council is particularly keen for local people to suggest how the building could make a bigger contribution to the economy of Matlock Bath.”

Press Release from “
The Matlock Bath Pavilion Group” - Sunday 9th January
As the snow thaws - Derbyshire Dales Council faces avalanche of protest letters!
After a weekend of leaflet delivery, significant support has been identified for saving the Matlock Bath Pavilion. Almost everyone contacted has voiced support and are writing to Derbyshire Dales District Council requesting more time for the Matlock Bath Pavilion Group to come up with detailed proposals for the future of the Pavilion.
Supporters braved the snow and fierce winds to deliver the whole village and talk to residents, as they went from door-to-door. People voiced amazement that such an iconic building, built with local money, could be sold by the Council. Selling it could result in the building being destroyed.
